Virtual distance, not distance in reality, nor can it be accurately calculated, but personal deductions can be made. The presentation of it is to deliberately not create any image on the surface / artwork for audience interpretation and to think upon, hence the empty surface.
The blank surface creates the virtual distance (while the length of it depends on the audiences’ understanding on the work), showing that the audience possess different levels of understanding on artworks and events (while the level of understanding unwittingly creates a distance: the distance between audience and artwork), and it will be up to them to determine their own understanding regarding the work.
